![]() ![]() UPS have heavy-duty power filters which even out surges and dropouts, which can be quite brief. PS: I did run hardware diagnostics (the extended testing) when the problem first occurred in october, and allthough the testing took a veeeeeeery long time (more than 24h), everything seemed fine at the time…Ī UPS is always a good investment, even if it is of modest size and its battery only provides time for your Mac to shut down. Can temperature affect the power supply? Or is that an idiot assumption? I don’t know if temperature has anything to do with it, but these April-days are exceptionally warm for this moment of the year (I live in Belgium). ![]() A few days ago, it started all over again. I never found the source of the problem, but after a lot of general maintenance (deleting corrupt fonts, examining all of my software & background processes, hardware testing etc etc etc etc), the problem disappeared. ![]() However, there might be other things in the main electricity that can cause harm? I’m not very electricity-savvy, so I’m just blabbing here.Īnother thing that makes me worry about the power supply of the imac instead of a broader problem, is the fact that I first encountered the sudden shutdowns a few months ago (october 17). There’s never been a single power outage in the four years I’m working here. However, what I don’t understand is how the mains AC Power (of the building) can cause these problems. I’ll probably get one in the next few days, also to see if that eliminates the problem. I am not using a UPS at the moment, although I probably should. Thanks for your reply! Two questions pop into my mind: I am grateful to Graham Perrin and others who revealed this information on StackExchange and elsewhere.
